TIP-Telkom University's press release on Open Ecosystem Technology Showcase in Indonesia's New Capital City, Nusantara. NTT DOCOMO/OREX SAI's contribution to successfully conduct 5G Open RAN trial.

This press release explains that, Telecom Infra Project (TIP) and Telkom University have led multiple parties to conduct an Open Ecosystem Technology Showcase with the Authority of New Capital City (OIKN) to realize the Smart City Concept in Indonesia‘s New Capital City Nusantara (IKN).

Under TIP/Telkom University facilitation, NTT DOCOMO, together with the technical and business value added from OREX SAI, has successfully conducted a 5G Open virtualized RAN standalone trial.

NTT DOCOMO’s first highlight was the interoperability with Telkomsel's 5G core. A collaborative and intensive effort with Telkomsel, including multiple RU in different location to obtain indoor 5G coverage, enabled a reliable connectivity and stability in performance, to celebrate Indonesia's 79th Independence Day.

The second achievement was the introduction of 5G use case. In order to realize IKN Smart City Concept, one of the challenges might be the shortage of labor or skilled personnel. In order to solve this, NTT DOCOMO demonstrated a solution called "Remote Work Support." This solution allows experts to support juniors to execute sophisticated work from remote location, by using smart glass such as Microsoft HoloLens 2. As a result, Remote Work Support can not only mitigate shortage of workforce but also accelerate technical transfer, ensure safety and increase productivity.

The third outcome was the booth presentation in IKN. Actual 5G Open RAN equipment will be on display at the NTT DOCOMO booth at the Nusantara Technology Exhibition Center until the end of September 2024. The booth also shows video about OREX's Open RAN introduction and slides regarding the benefit of introducing Open RAN.

In conclusion, NTT DOCOMO believes that 5G Open RAN matches the IKN concept, to sustainably enrich the city and contribute to the industrialization of Indonesia.
