Barcelona, Spain – March 3rd, 2026 -
OREX SAI, INC.(OREX SAI), a joint venture of NTT DOCOMO GLOBAL, Inc.(DOCOMO Global) and NEC Corporation (NEC), and COMCLARK Network and Technology Corp.(COMCLARK), a leading technology provider in the Philippines, today announced progress in their collaboration to bring better internet access to underserved areas of the Philippines.
The two companies are preparing to begin trials of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) using Open RAN technology. This follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in January, which was followed by support of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
Many parts of the Philippines, especially rural, mountainous, and island communities, still lack reliable broadband due to the difficulty and high cost of deploying fiber networks across more than 7,000 islands.
To address this challenge, OREX SAI and COMCLARK, as the Philippine Project lead, are working on a multi-step plan to deliver affordable and scalable internet access.
The companies are currently conducting a business feasibility study and preparing for technical trials for proof of concept. These trials will validate the Open RAN solution using the n50 L-band spectrum. This initiative aims to bring high-speed internet to communities that have long been underserved.
Improved connectivity will support access to online education, digital banking, telehealth services, and new economic opportunities across the country.
